Myofacial Release

  • What is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial release is the softening of the fascia, which surrounds all body systems. The therapist will apply gentle sustained pressure to areas of the body that feel stiff or inelastic. The technique utilized is the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release (JFB-MFR). This technique is unique because it is held for a minimum of 2-3 minutes which increase blood flow and nutrition to that area. In turn increase the cells healing abilities.

    What is Fascia?

Fascia is a thin connective tissue that surrounds every system in the body including muscles, veins, nerves, arteries, and internal organs. It resembles a 3 dimensional spider web throughout the whole body. Therefore a restriction or tightness of fascia in one area can affect the fascia in another area.

  • What should I expect at my first MFR appointment?

Before you begin your first session, you will fill out an intake form detailing any pain, tightness, or other dysfunction you are experiencing. When you arrive, your therapist will meet you at the door and guide you to the MFR room before briefly going over the form with you to establish a starting point. Throughout the session the therapist will follow your body’s cues on what areas to target next.
